Vikas Prathmik Vidyalaya

A chance to visit Vikas Prathmik Vidyalaya, a school in Kharadi, Pune on January 26, 2017, turned out to be one of the most important projects for Deeds for Needs. The team together with friends had gone to distribute goodies and stationery at the school and noticed that the school was in a sorry state. We spoke to the students and asked them what they wanted most, & the kids asked for benches. With the help of social media and personal messages, friends made donations and we collected enough funds to make this wish come true. However during the bench donation drive, we realised that there was a lot of work that needed to be done at the school. Hnece, we decided to adopt the school and renovate it completely – flooring, roofing, tiling, painting, bathrooms and all. Meetings with Architects and corporates followed. Finally the project that was to be completed in two years, was completed in just two months!! All thanks to the generous donation by Mina Sanghvi of Sanghvi Movers and other donors.

The 250 students now have a school they love to come to, a school that is competely transformed!!

Aid to Vikas Prathmik Vidyalaya is also in the form of

• Bags, books, water bottles, tiffin boxes
• Benches
• Building with separate washrooms for boys and girls
• Library
• Uniforms
• Midday meals
• Sports equipment and sports uniforms

Friends volunteered to conduct classes for the kids and so English, Math and Yoga classes are held for the kids.

Deeds for Needs now looks after the day to day running of the school. We have arranged for a one-time corpus to take care of the basic requirements.
